2.00pm – 4.00pm – Monday Talks

Our Monday Talks given by guest speakers cover a wide range of topics – see “Monday Talk” section of this site for details.

9am – 10 am – TAI CHI/QIGONG – First Class with Carol Fury  

This class continues with Qigong exercises practising the movements of Tai Chi forms promotes health and well being and improves balance.  Please wear loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise.
8 Sessions – Begins:  8th May, 2018 –  Venue: Masonic Hall, Kiama.  (Please note this class is not accepting new members this term)


8.30a.m. – 9.30a.m.  TAI CHI BEGINNERS  –  with Kathie Pearson

Please wear comfortable clothing, supportive shoes, and a ready smile.  8 Sessions –  Begins: 8th May, 2018 –  Venue:  NKNC Main Hall.


12.30pm – 1.45pm – TWINKLING TOES – with Maureen Mulready

Experienced or beginners welcome to join an active dance class – mostly tap.  The class will consist of warm-ups, mastering new and old steps, combinations and routines.   Tap or solid-soled shoes needed.  Fun and Fitness guaranteed!

2.00 – 4.00pm – WHAT’S IN THE NEWS? – with Brian Cowling

An informal group discussion on what’s happening locally, nationally and world-wide.    8 Sessions – Begins:  8th May, 2018  – Venue: NKNC Main Hall.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS:  Everyone welcome, Gentle exercise in sturdy shoes and loose-fitting clothing.  8 Sessions – Begins:  9th May, 2018 –  Venue: NKNC Main Hall.


9.45am – 10.45am – TAI CHI QIGONG –  with Shirley Gould

ADVANCED CLASS:  These classes continue on their journey through Yang and sun styles and include Qigong. The fluid, gentle movements are relaxed and slow in tempo, improving balance, yet strengthening and mobilising joints and muscles: breathing is deepened, aiding concentration. Please wear loose and comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes for exercise.

1.30pm – 3.30pm – MAHJONG – with  Marion Rattray & Marie Stuart

This charming game from China captivated the world in the Twentieth Century, becoming a craze in the US, Britain, Japan and Australia in particular.  Learning the basics is easy, but becoming a champion requires skill, strategy, courage – and luck!   8 Sessions –  Begins:  9th May, 2018 –   Venue:  Kiama Uniting Church Hall, Bong Bong Street Kiama.    PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE  


2.00pm – 4.00pm – BOOK GROUP – with Ken Methold

A book club with a difference – you read your own book, then come and discuss it.   MEETS FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH  –Venue:  34 South Kiama Drive, Kiama Heights   Cost $2 each session – Begins: 9th May, 2018.


2.00pm – 4.00pm –  – FOUR EMPIRES – SIX CENTURIES – with Peter Clarke & John Mountford

A brief look at the four empires established by Portugal, Spain, Britain and France between 1415 and 1997.  Throughout these periods of religious intolerance and warfare, waxing and waning military might and industrial change, these countries established, developed and plundered colonies throughout the world.                            Inevitably, faced with political changes at home and nationalist movements abroad, the empires declined and were dismantled throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.   8 Sessions – Begins: 9th May, 20a8 –  Venue:  NKNC Main Hall.






10.00am – 12.00 noon – MEDITATION  – with Ann Barbato

Come and learn to meditate sitting on comfortable chairs.  Meditation is a tool to deepen awareness, improve mental tranquillity and the ability to cope with stress.  A short daily practice develops clearer thinking, improved memory and concentration, and helps to normalise blood pressure.  4 Sessions – Begins: 10th May, 2018 – Venue: 91 Barney Street Kiama.


2.00pm – 4.00pm –  FINE ART HISTORY AND APPRECIATION  – with Peter Clarke

Term 2 begins two new topics from the “General Courses” series.  Each week we will view two lectures from the series “The World’s Greatest Paintings” by William Kloss, art historian and lecturer at the Smithsonian Institute, followed by a lecture in the series “Museum Masterpieces” by Catherine Scully, Associate Professor of Art History at Case Western University.   8 Sessions – Begins: 10th May, 2018 –  Venue: NKNC Main Hall.






10.00am – 12.00 noon  –  WRITING CLUB – with Helen Hedley & Patricia Thornton

Life is a collection of stories and we all have so many buried away.  Join us in sharing a love of writing (and reading).  This group is not designed to be critical but forgiving, writing short pieces that can include jokes, anecdotes, verse, interesting (even strange or unusual) facts.  We will share our efforts in an open forum and enjoy the stimulation and discussion that yarns and stories can generate.  8 Sessions – Begins: 11th May, 2018 –  Venue: NKNC Community Room.


2.00pm – 4.00pm  – MUSIC &  MOVIES FOR PLEASURE – A GATHERING OF MUSIC LOVERS – with Janet Granger and Peter Clarke
